1. Cuddle up with a fur ball.
A recent study (published in the U.S. today) shows that cat owners reduce the risk of heart attack nearly a third. Scientists suggest that dogs offer similar performance, because both help relieve the stress of their respective owners.

2. Stop smoking.
This needs no explanation, if you want a healthy life.

3. Keep your body mass index below 30 (preferably about 18.5 to 25).

4. Get busy under the sheets.
Men and women who have sex at least 2-3 times a week cut their risk of heart disease by 50% (study published in the American Journal of Cardiology). This is not a sufficient reason for a romantic evening today (and everyday)?

5. Take a vitamin D supplement
Vitamin D (which is important for your bone strength) is important to protect against heart disease. Vitamin D deficiency doubles the risk of dying from heart disease by 50% (according to the Framingham Heart Study). Ask your doctor for blood tests of vitamin D and take a supplement if necessary.

6. Out in the sun.
Vitamin D (as shown in the previous tip) is essential for heart health. Before taking any supplement to spend 10-15 minutes in the midday sun on most days of the week. Do not use sunscreen during sun exposure because it blocks sunlight UV-B bands of light that produce vitamin D in our bodies. Wear a hat and cover your face, but leave many parts of your body as possible to be exposed to the sun.

7. Get enough sleep.
Anxiety, irritability and moodiness are not only the consequences of not getting enough sleep. Sacrificing sleep may promote the accumulation of calcium in the arteries, which can lead to heart attack causing plaque.

8. Listening to upbeat music and relaxing.
Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore have shown for the first time that the emotions aroused by joyful music have a beneficial effect on the function of blood vessels. The music has the same effects as the rice to get in tune with your favorite song as often as possible.

9. There are some green plants at home.
Increases in green happiness and creativity and reduces stress levels, according to a study of Washington State University. The plants also clean the air in your home or office by pollutants such as chemicals and dust that can trigger spikes in blood pressure quickly.
